Moving during festive periods!

Moving is said to be one of the most stressful things a person will do in their life, so you can imagine the added stress of moving in December during the festive season and the new year. If you’re planning to move during December before Christmas, the best thing you can do to reduce the stress is make sure you’ve clearly planned everything ahead of the big day.

All you need to do is follow these simple steps to make your moving day run as smoothly as possible, and make sure your new home is all set up for the new year!

Christmas Shopping

Christmas shopping can be stressful enough on its own, yet alone while you’re moving house! If you know you’re moving close to Christmas day, make sure you do all your Christmas shopping long before you start packing for your move. Pack all your Christmas presents in a separate box and that way you can easily get them under the tree as soon as you’ve moved.

Booking a Removal Company

The first thing you should do when planning to move is to find and book a removal company for a confirmed date. If you already know your moving date, it will give you the incentive to start preparing everything without putting it off.

If you are moving in December, you probably want to be in your new house for Christmas day, right? In that case, don’t plan to move right before the big day; give yourself at least a few days to unpack and set up at least some of your belongings for Christmas day. If you’re cooking Christmas dinner, you’ll probably want the kitchen boxes unpacked and set up first.

Bills

If you want to have electricity and running water on Christmas day, make sure you let your utility providers know that you’re moving – make sure they know the date of your move and the location of your new house with plenty of notice. Most people are busy around the festive season, and the electricity and water companies are probably no different. They are likely to have lots of customers around December, so make sure you get in there early.

Packing

Pack things in order of importance. Pack things you won’t really need early, and only save essentials for packing closer to the moving date. Clearly labelling boxes for specific rooms will make unpacking in your new home much faster and much easier. Pack any Christmas decorations and your Christmas tree in a separate box, so you can easily decorate your new house and make it look festive in time for Christmas day. To make it easier for you, AJ Movers provides a range of packaging services available to you at a great price!

Pets

Do you have any pets? When it comes to moving day, make sure your pet is kept in a quiet empty room that won’t have people walking in and out all day. If they are running around the whole house all day, they could get in your way, or they could become agitated and distressed.

Planning Christmas

If you don’t have time to unpack everything for Christmas day, it might be a good idea to spend Christmas day somewhere else. Don’t add the pressure of Christmas day onto the stress of moving, so, spend Christmas at a relative’s house and give yourself a break from all the moving jobs. Depending on how much stuff you have and how fast you can unpack, you might be able to set up your house in time for New Year’s Eve. It might be the perfect event to hold a house warming party.
