Common mistakes to avoid when moving!

It may be your first time moving or your fifth time – mistakes can be made at any time and any place. No matter how experienced or inexperienced you are there are the same 4 mistakes that people commonly make. Some really obvious, some not. We want to help you avoid making these mistakes that would increase your stress levels!

Although, we understand that mistakes can occur inevitably, but here are AJ Movers we want to reassure you that you are in safe, unmistakeable hands! So, just nip it in the bud and read on to find out how to avoid the 4 common moving mistakes that everyone makes!

Mistake 1 – Ignoring the checklist

Creating an inventory and/or checklist is very important because you need to remember every little thing you have to take and what need to do. You may be thinking “I don’t need an inventory because I am taking everything with me” – you will be surprised! Once at your new place, how will you know you have everything with you? Check everything at least 3 times and then check it again to be absolutely sure you haven’t left anything at your old place!

Mistake 2 – Remember the Meter? Yeah you need to read those

You may have never looked at your meter, but those little numbers are important and need to be taken down when you leave your house for good. Take a picture, write them down and keep them safe! Make sure you contact the companies for your gas, water and electric – you don’t want to be accidently charged! If you don’t take these numbers down it could be very costly in the future!

Mistake 3 – Thinking your superman or superwoman!

Don’t try and lift heavy things by yourself! Saving money is great but sometimes you might have to bite the bullet and hire yourself some experienced and trained movers! You can hire just a van, however, it would take longer and you increase the risk of injury and unnecessary stress! So, Get the man too! AJ Movers has years of experience and specialises in removals in and around Bedfordshire, we can help take the load off your hands and into the van!

Mistake 4 – ‘Everything is coming with us’

Instead of boxing everything up, have you thought about decluttering? This is probably one of the best chances you will have to get rid of anything that is broken or you simply don’t want. We promise you that you won’t need that broken garden chair or the pile of outdated newspapers! You can even make some money – read our declutter to aid a house sale guide to find out how you can add value to your house!

So, now you know what you need to make sure you do before you hand your keys in for the final time. Don’t get caught up in unnecessary stress! Need any help with moving?
